That New Year’s Blog Post: 2015 Style

I think the idea of 2015 hit me when my students said to me…”so 15 years ago you were in 8th grade like us? DANG, MISS! Did you have Internet?” Seriously? I explained that we had a modem that used the phone to connect and that you couldn’t be on the phone at the same time. They stared at me with sympathy and concern. If I think back to 15 years ago, I try and remember how I even viewed a new year. Probably the same as I do now, a chance to start fresh and get recharged and a chance to try new things! So, here’s what I’ll be doing this 2015. Maybe you’ll add some of my tools to your new year arsenal? 


What’s in your toolkit?

Most of these are pretty self-explanatory. The weird white stuff? Yep. It’s Tofu…and I’m going to create a recipe that I like once and for all. I’m also going to use my Thug Kitchen cookbook to help me. I’ve tried some recipes, but I’m just not in love with Tofu. I’m convinced that 2015 is going to be the year I cook a Tofu dish that doesn’t make me want to cry. Another note about my new favorite cookbook? I purchased it this year to add to my cookbook collection and this one is hysterical. I love profanity and plant-based cooking, so if you’re into that…you’ll need this book in 2015. Next up? I’m re-reading Gabrielle Bernstein’s “ING“. I want to compare my 2014 ING to my 2015 ING. This is kind of a self-reflective/meditation based thing I’ve been curious about. So, we’ll see how that goes. I’ll also be coupling my Yoga practice in with my journaling and re-readings. I’m hoping to see more positive change and growth since 2014. I also hope to get on my mat and to my classes more often. I’m going to try and make some time for my mind this year.

You might be wondering who Savvy Boheme is and why they’re in my 2015 toolkit. Because…if you’re NOT rubbing their Tall Americano vegan body oil all over your sexy self after a shower or bath you’re not living. All of their oils are great, but I’m a coffee girl at heart. I’ve reviewed this oil a while back, but their products need another mention. I’ve been obsessed with body and facial oils so I’m making that a real regimen come 2015. My skin looks and feels amazing! PSA: Oily skinned girls need body and facial oil. Don’t let anyone tell you differently!

Peace out, 2014. You were pretty darn good! Started a new job, got myself hitched, and had an all-around great time! It’ll be hard getting used to not celebrating 24/7, but some normalcy will be nice, too.

  1. Did you also tell your students about these things called telephones that had to have cords in order to work, and that you couldn’t go further than the cord allowed? Or-or about the luxury that cordless phones were? Geez. They’re gonna grow up and be like, “When I was your age, we had these things called cell phones and wifi…,” and be so lost on holographic technology. Or, you know, something like that. :p

    That “ING” book seems like a pretty cool one, and I think I’ll have to add it to my to-buy list, then my to-read list. :D

    I really love the recipes that include profanity, to be honest. I feel it makes them easier to remember, and sometimes it’s just easier to understand — compare “fucking stir the stupid mixture around and around until it’s fucking dizzy” “stir until all is mixed well”. Um, I can find the boring one.

    Your year sounds like it was really nice! c: My toolkit… ah, well, it’s a lot of code-related things, and I need to find a planner… I need one that I like/that would/will work well for my needs as a blogger, creative, coder, community director, and all that jazz. It also includes loads of seeds, as I plan to develop recipes this year (and really do it), super fruit chews from Lovely Candy Co., and some things that teach me a little about veganism… (That’s a Lizism :p) This year, I plan to do a 3-day vegan challenge, and it would be completely or near allergy-free, and well…yeah.

    And SunButter. Definitely that! (Because SunButter syrup and sauce and enchiladas and ice cream and tamales and caramels and ugh… I can’t remember the others… and I’ve just been very bad, okay.)

    • …there was supposed to be a “to” between the comparisons. :x I’m having cold meds withdrawals, as I was tired of being so groggy and am taking the day off, so if anything else doesn’t make sense, please excuse my dear annoying sinuses. (PEMDAS eee)

  2. Goodness, I chuckled at the lettuce grill picture. I think I’m sold on that book. They should make cooking more fun with a bit of sass. I’m sure more consumers are willing to purchase these cookbooks, thereby generating cashflow and increasing the number of competent cooks – a win-win situation if you ask me. :P

    And my goodness, I remember the time we had modems. I also remember the times when my parents and I had to take turns with phone/internet because of that. How did we survive? Ohh, technology, how we love thee. Then there was DSL, and then wifi right? Did I skip anything? Gosh time flies. Makes me wonder what life will be like in the coming decades, you know?

    In the meantime, we’ll just have to take our time and make the best of what’s coming one day at a time. I hope you had a wonderful start of 2015 thus far! :D

  3. THUG KITCHEN!! I LOVE that woman and her meals look amazingly delicious! The first time I saw her before she even came out with her book was on Youtube and I could not stop laughing… I almost couldn’t breathe, I shit you not. That girl is hilarious!

    I hope you have an amazing new year, too… and I hope you find a kick ass recipe that you can’t turn away from containing that ‘dreaded’ tofu ;)
