My Mom and I in Seattle going down a giant slide. circa 1990.

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I am an only child, which aside from resulting in me being a “princess” (as Keith says), it has also resulted in a very close relationship with my parents. I am extremely grateful for the relationship I share with each of my parents, but in honor of Mother’s Day, it’s all about June (that’d be my Mom). She is one of the strongest women I know, always willing to help a family member or friend. She has been my best friend and my confidante since I was a little girl, and there are so many things I am thankful for that my Mom has done for me. She also put up with me throughout 8th and 9th grade, the years in which I’m almost positive I made Satan shake in his boots. Without further ado, some “June-isms”.

“Just because you know something, doesn’t mean you have to broadcast it to everyone.” — after announcing to my 3rd grade friend (and much of the class) that her parents had had sex to make her.

“We’ll have a picnic in the car! Sometimes when I don’t feel well, I just don’t want to look at people.” — after me crying because I was sick and didn’t want to eat in Burger King.

“I don’t check the boxes because it’s between me and the priest.” — after I asked why she doesn’t check the box on the collection envelope at church. I was about 5 years old for this one.

“I do go to the bathroom, I just don’t pack a bag like you and your Father.” — on her short bathroom trips.

“What is great about our relationship is that I LIKE you as well as love you. I have to love you, but I don’t also have to LIKE you.” — at TGIF, a comment that offended two old ladies.

“The first thing I had after giving birth to you? A Diet Coke and a cigarette!” — her two vices.

“It’s something for adults.” — on what “Groove Thing” is, after I questioned the song lyrics of “Shake Your Groove Thing” at age 7.

“Clean as you go, because then when you’re tired you don’t have tons of shit to clean up.” — on Christmas baking.

“See? This is because he is a stupid man!” — applicable in almost any situation involving men and mistakes. I’ve been hearing this one for years.

For some reason these things still make me laugh. I don’t know if it’s the WAY my mother says things, or the fact that most of these things are true. Either way, my Mom is awesome. She doesn’t let anyone push her around, she’s fun to hang out with, and she is always there for me no matter what, whether it’s something that’s bothering me, or just a silly question that I’ve been pondering. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MOM! To all the Moms out there, happy Mother’s day to you, too. You guys deserve it! (Like my Mom says: “You just don’t get ‘me’ time once you have kids.”) Hope you guys get some “you time.”

Aw. That’s such a cute picture of your Mom. I’m also an only child, but I’ve never been too close to my Mom. I’ve always been a Daddy’s girl. That’s so nice what you’re doing for your Mom for Mothers day. May she have a great one. <3

Those lines are nice. :P Some are cute, some are funny. :)

What I mean is that at the end of this month she’ll just cut off the electricity. Blahh. After all the bills, she claims to not be able to survive on $300 per month. Gas and groceries… It’s not that bad. I mean, if she’d quit etaing out all the time…
