Beautisol Sunless Self-Tanning

I love care packages!!

I love care packages!!

The other day I was lucky enough to open up my mailbox and see a package from iFabbo and Beautisol! A while back, Tashina‘s post about vegan self-tanning peaked my interest about the brand. So, when I was able to see it in my shop over at iFabbo, I knew I had to try the stuff out for myself. I have a history with self-tanner. I’ve bee orange and yellow, I’ve reeked of DHA, and I’ve even spent time in the tanning beds. Shame on me!

So, after opening this package I was stoked. My experience was positive and this product works for anyone who wants a subtle and natural looking glow, in my opinion. This is NOT for a drastic change in your skin tone. Upon opening my package I disregarded the importance of the mitt. Use your mitt because this product will stain your hands. When you first pump out the tanning mousse it resembles a very greenish brown woodsy color. Think pine trees. It also smells amazing. It’s got Rooibos Tea extract and Green Tea extract so my skin felt really rejuvenated all day long. I used it once BEFORE SHAVING, and once again AFTER SHAVING to see if there was any difference in color. For me, I had the same subtle glow that made me look sun-kissed rather than sun-tanned which, now in my mid 20s, I prefer.

Another plus? Application and dry time are both super quick! I’m a teacher and I have a limited amount of time to get all of my stuff done before I go to work. However, as a teacher you can’t really go into the classroom looking unkempt. I applied to my arms and legs according to the provided guide, and literally in less than two minutes I had my dress pants and blouse on without any transfer of color. It’s convenient and easy to apply and the mousse feels cool and gentle on freshly shaven legs. No burning, and no irritation for me! Looks like I can add another amazing self-tanner to my repertoire now!

Want to try it? Beautisol is offering a 20% product discount for my blissandblessings.com/curlsdotnu readers by entering the code ifabboglow at checkout. How sweet it is!

My Influenster Sweetheart Voxbox!

Recently, I joined Influenster in an effort to be able to try new products and tell people about them on my blog. I really love sharing all of my favorite products (and not so favorites) with you guys in the hopes that I can point you all in the right direction when it comes to shopping. You can imagine my excitement when my Sweetheart Voxbox came in the mail. My first one! Squee!  photo

I’m going to start right off the bat with a product I LOVED! The NYM Texturizing Beach Babe Salt Spray was fun and smelled super awesome. I liked the light coconut scent that accompanied each spritz. It was refreshing rather than overwhelming. I also have naturally curly hair, so this product gave me a little more volume and it seems like my curls were more defined. At first I was worried that the salt spray would give me that crunchy curl look but it didn’t. My curls are really soft.

As a regular Ulta customer, I’ve seen the NYM brands before but never knew what to try! This is a product that I would definitely purchase in the future since it seemed to really to what it promised.

The SkinnyGirl on the go Nutrition Bars were a surprise too. Please note that this is coming from someone extremely picky. I typically like my bars to have less than 5g of fat, so the 10g was a bit of a turnoff for me when trying this baby. Because it was a sample, it didn’t come with an ingredient list so I went online to see what exactly it contained and I was happy to see that many of the ingredients (peanuts, coconut oil, and rolled oats to name a few) were all easy to read AND pronounce. However, for me, the taste was a little bland. This bar was not a WOW for me. I like peanut butter, but the coconut flavor kind of took away from that portion of it. I also thought with the increased protein and fiber it would stay with me for longer than it did. I’m very picky with granola bars, so this one might not be the one for me. I would be open to trying another flavor though OR another SkinnyGirl product.

Next up, the Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid System. Can I say LOVE?? Olay is a fabulous brand and has never let me down. I actually wanted to purchase this product but received it in my VoxBox in a nick of time. As a girl who suffers from oily skin, the “Shine Shine Go Away” cleanser worked to keep me soft, not slippery, all day long. I also like the metallic color that the cleanser is. It’s fun, smells great and works! The vibrating brush felt funny at first. My nose felt a little ticklish and then once I got used to the movement of the product I was lathering up easily. I tried to make Keith try it, but he politely declined. His loss! Overall, this product is GREAT and I’ve already bought a large tube of the cleanser.

Finally, you guys all know by now that I’m a teacher and a workaholic. So, I stress a lot which involves me going to Yoga and taking a lot of Tums, but I digress. Did I mention that I practice Hot Vinyasa Yoga? Secret’s Stress Sweat Deodorant didn’t budge during my 90 minute class. So, 90 minutes in a 90 degree room means wearing tank tops my friends, and this deodorant did what it said it would: WORK! It also has a light citrus scent that jives well with my usual fragrance. I’m still using it and I think I’ve found a new brand.

Did anyone else receive a SweetHeart VoxBox? What did you think? Have you tried any of these items?

Items for Every Teacher’s Bag

In two weeks my school reconvenes for the Spring 2013 semester. I’ve taught a variety of levels before finding my home in the college level classroom (and with school age children as a whole), but many of my other teacher pals are always amazed by the amount of things I carry in my “teacher bag.” It might be because I’m paranoid, but I tend to keep many of the same things in my “teacher” bag that I would carry in my normal purse. For the teachers out there in the blogosphere who need to know what to carry, and to the interns who are hoping to land their first teaching job, here is my list of go-to products that have proven useful for me, my former preschool kids, and my current college crazies.

This baby right here is my teacher bag. After a long time of searching for the perfect school bag, I finally decided to drop some dough on a North Face Borealis Backpack. A while ago, I wrote a blog post about how spending more on certain products turns your accessories into an investment. Two years later, my backpack is still looking as new as the day I purchased it. This backpack has paid for itself twice over and I couldn’t be happier with it. So, the first step is obviously finding a strong foundation to carry all of your items–and believe me, you’re going to have a lot of them!

So, what should be in a teacher bag? Following is a list of products and items I’ve had in my backpack since I landed my job a year and a half ago. Remember, I teach students who are usually over 18 years old yet each of these items has come in handy for them and for me.

Tissues and Hand Sanitizer: These two products have saved me when it comes to staying healthy and has kept my students healthy, too. I bring enough tissues and hand sanitizer so that I can share it with my students. I’m with them on an average of four times a week or more! If they stay healthy, so do I!

Water Bottle: Not until I began talking for hours on end every day did I realize that coffee doesn’t cut it. Get a cheap reusable water bottle and you’ll skip having to run out in the hall to a water fountain. (Yes, this is spoken from experience).

Band-aids and Neosporin: Yes, even for older students! If you can whip out a band-aid it keeps your student in your class rather than them losing time to go to the nurse. For college students, it’s just plain convenience.

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lipbalm: I chose this lip balm for two reasons. 1) Because I support Burt’s, their philosophy, and their products. They make a good product and in my opinion they work to stay ethical. 2) Because it gives me quick color for in between class touch-ups without a hassle. While you’re teaching, easy = your best bet!

So, in addition to the pens, pencils, paper, post-it notes, and planners (notice all the P’s??) a teacher should be prepared with a little something to keep you looking fresh and products that keep your students safe and healthy. I’d also like to add that in most cases you will be buying your own tissues, purell, and other “extra” supplies. It’s just the way it is and those who are dedicated to the education profession already know that! Get packing!
