Brighten and Soften up with Derma E!

Can we talk about this winter on the East Coast? Technically it’s Spring, but not to worry–we had a snowstorm last weekend and a few days later it was in the 40s. So, my combo skin is having a mini-meltdown worse than my middle schoolers on a Friday before lunch (the horror!) However, one of my very favorite brands, Derma E has been making my skin super happy. I fell in love with this brand on a fateful day at ULTA when I decided I needed a SYSTEM for my cruelty free skincare routine. I like using products from the same “family” for my daily cleansing and care. Because I also have combination/oily skin, I need simple, safe ingredients.

Hydrating Mist ($13.50) and Evenly Radiant Creme ($26.96).

I’m a really big fan of their Hydrating Collection and regularly use their cleanser and day creme from this line. So, I was super pumped to try their Hydrating Mist with Hyaluronic Acid. This mist contains minerals and nutrients in a gentle Aloe Base along with Witch Hazel and Green Tea Leaf Extract. This mist is fresh, light, and so gentle even on my dry skin. A long, long time ago, I longed for the MAC Fix+ and used it all the time to set my makeup. I’ve long given up MAC, but never found a replacement makeup finisher until now. This Hydrating Mist cools, rehydrates, and locks moisture in and I really liked how nice and soothing it felt. I would also use this after a nice day at the beach or after a long day in the sunshine as an after-sun balm.

Because I sometimes have the occasional breakout, I have some spotty scarring and dark marks from picking at my skin (or simply not using SPF!) Derma E’s Evenly Radiant Brightening Day Creme with SPF 15 made my skin so soft and supple! It is a thicker creme and a little really goes a long way in terms of application. I liked that there was no scent and that Derma E created their own unique brightening power pack of Madonna Lily Plant Stem Cells, Bearberry, Niacinamide, Licorice, Green Tea and C-Ester. After three weeks of using this creme as a base (and putting makeup on over it), my skin truly looked more even and calm. Almost instantly, my skin felt more moisturized, but the actual evening took a little bit longer for me to notice. But, once I did? I was pretty psyched! Even though this creme is for “daytime” I used it at night as well on my face and neck so all of the natural goodness could work its magic as I slept!

Overall, their product collections, in my opinion, can be mixed and matched to create your very own unique system. So if you haven’t checked out Derma E…get on it, and treat your skin to some cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free, and awesome-full goodness!

Pacifica ALIGHT BB Cream & PURIFY Coconut Water Wipe Review

Many of you already know that I am obsessed with Pacifica products and love trying new ones! So, when the lovely folks at Pacifica sent me their Alight Mineral BB Cream ($16), I was super excited to try it out. In this month’s box, I also saw an old favorite of mine, Purify Coconut Water Cleaning Wipes ($6) which I have gushed about here, and on other blogs that I contribute to.

Can you dig this adorable packaging?

Can you dig this adorable packaging?

Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Pacifica always knocks it out of the park with their packaging. I love their floral designs, bright, tropical colors, and the “girly” packaging. When I see their packages, I automatically think “summer.” That feeling of summer only continues when you use their cleansing wipes. Their coconut water cleansing wipes are cruelty free and natural which I love! These wipes also have Papaya, Aloe Vera, and Calendula to soothe and calm skin as they cleanse and tone. This product is great for when you need an “all in one” cleanse. I love how my skin feels after using these wipes (clean and supple), and I love how they smell like a day at the beach.

The coconut scent is light…not overpowering, and these wipes remove makeup easily without tugging or pulling. Pacifica’s Coconut Water Cleaning Wipes are a staple in my gym bag. I always use them when I arrive at the gym to remove my makeup from work. My fellow blogger and bestie, Kathleen said, I loved the smell of beaches and coconuts that subtly comes off these wipes.  They worked great when it was time to remove my beloved BB cream for the night and left my skin smelling like summer and feeling fresh for bedtime.” Whether you’re combo, oily, or dry these wipes will treat your skin right!

Again, loving this sleek tube!

Again, loving this sleek tube!

Next up? The Alight BB Cream! I’ve been coveting this BB cream for quite some time. I really used to be a BB cream skeptic. “Another moisturizer?” I’d think to myself. I’ve since become a BBeliever (heh, Beauty Blog humor), and this product is no exception. Now, I’d like to first say that this BB cream is very LIGHT in texture/formula. If you’re looking for full coverage, this cream is not for you. This cream leaves you with a radiant, dewy complexion with a little bit of subtle sparkle. The feel of the product is almost whipped when you place it on your skin which I really liked. As an oily skinned lady, I prefer my products to be on the lighter side. I also do not require a full coverage cream or foundation base to my makeup.

The Alight BB Cream packs my beloved Coconut Water along with Jojoba, Sweet Iris Leaf Extract, Rose Leaf Extract, Kelp, and Oat Glucan. All of these ingredients are natural moisturizers and anti-aging ingredients!

Bestie and I agree that the color match glides on like a dream. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who needs little to no “coverage” but wants a more even, radiant complexion. I’ve worn this alone and as a makeup base and loved it both ways!

I don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about how much I love Pacifica and their products. So, with that being said? Which of their products have you tried?

Things I’m Loving Thursday

My inspiration levels have been off the charts as of late. I went through a little big of a slump throughout the month of January and even some of February. Students were restless, the weather was less than appealing in CT, and my overall mood was low. I lacked motivation to work out, wake up early, and even eat properly (skipping meals and subbing with coffee…not good!) So, after some a crazy long winter blues session, I’m here with what I’m loving now that February is almost over and Spring is less than a month away.

First up? The lovely Tara Stiles! She’s a yogini master and a inspirational extraordinaire. I’ve been digging her Sharespiration section on her website and have been checking it out and sharing an affirmation that sticks with me.

This affirmation struck a chord with me because I was allowing my mood to affect my well-being. I wasn’t properly taking care of myself in terms of giving myself good fuel, a proper period of rest, and quiet time alone to practice Yoga and meditate. In turn, I was not able to take care of my students, my husband, my home, or anyone else! Tara Stiles has some very authentic affirmations that can apply to almost any part of your life. Her smoothie recipes are pretty dope, too!

100% green, bb!

Going along with the theme of reflection, I’ve become absolutely obsessed with Decomposition Notebooks by Michael Roger. I’ve actually always had a thing for Composition Notebooks anyway, but these were different and fun. I loved the name and the quirky designs. So, obviously when I was at my old job’s bookstore, I had to purchase two.

I love this Forest design, the green ink, and the adorable deer. Inside the paper is “normal”, but the artwork is fun and exciting. These notebooks are from 100% post-consumer waste recycled pages which makes them sustainable.

I save all of my journals and I’ve been writing in a journal since I was 12 years old. I don’t think I’ll EVER be able to give up the paper journal, especially not since I tie this into my Yoga and mindfulness practice. If I’m having writer’s block, I google QOTD or I search up an affirmation from one of my favorite Yogis and try and write from there. I also use this book for daily ramblings which usually get me where I want to be with my journaling.

Simple meals have been part of my daily routine so I can have more time with my husband, friends, and family and spend less time working and doing meal prep. This is the GPS salad that I made. (Garbage Pail Salad, haha). I had Kale, Avocado, Quinoa, and Roasted Cauliflower and didn’t know what to do with any of it. So, I mixed it all together. DELISH. Filling. Simple. Having salad bowls for dinners and lunches have simplified the cooking system and have made for some tasty leftovers, too. I also just really love my bowl.

What are you loving this week? This month? This second?

The great minds at Pacifica Beauty are always amazing me with their delicious scents, products, and ethics! I love a company that believes in their mission and strives to fulfill that mission every day. Which is why when I received this beautiful care package from them, I was stoked to try some of my favorite products and then get a chance to SHARE them with you all! Not to mention everything from these talented folks are cruelty free and vegan!

Can we just talk about this gorgeous packaging for a minute?

I'm a sucker for a compliment, but this is super sweet!

I’m a sucker for a compliment, but this is super sweet!

I’m big on packaging and colors because I usually look at items based on their packaging! I also loved the time and effort Pacifica into their materials. I learned more about the company and their mission and really fell even more in love with them as a whole. But what was inside?

Mascara and Perfume Galore!

Even their product packaging is whimsical!

Even their product packaging is whimsical!

So, let’s get to the goods, shall we? My package contained: Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mascara in Supernova and Stardust as well as their famous Roll-On Perfumes in Hawaiian Ruby Guava, Tahitian Gardenia, and Tuscan Blood Orange! This all arrived on my doorstep before CT’s first blizzard so I was immediately in the mood for a tropical getaway!

I loved each of the Stellar Gaze Mascaras! Supernova is a deep, dark black and Stardust is a warm brown color. The mascara tubes and packaging are thicker as you can see above which I really liked. The packaging was smooth, pretty, and fit well in my hand. Right off the bat, I was a fan.

The formula of a mascara and the brush are the two most important things I consider when trying out new mascaras (that and they must be cruelty free of course). I hate thin, frail brushes. These brushes delivered. They are wide and SOFT, but also strong. I like how my lashes felt conditioned and soft throughout the day. No crispy lashes here. I also liked how the mascara felt going on. Some mascaras in the past have left me with sensitive eyes. This one does not. It is mineral based and natural, so it’s gentle.

I personally loved both shades of Supernova and Stardust. I used Stardust more for my day looks, for going to work and teaching. My Supernova mascara served me well for more dramatic looks for nighttime and for Valentine’s Day!

I have tried many of Pacifica’s perfumes and lotions before receiving this package, so I was stoked to receive a few scents I have not had the chance to try. First, the packaging is lovely. These roll perfumes can easily travel to work or school with you. The application is simple, but unlike other roll perfumes these actually put a good amount of fragrance on your skin. I did a few rolls behind my ears and on my wrists. The Hawaiian Ruby Guava reminds me of a tropical escape and I’ve used it before. It’s a very SWEET scent and reminds me of candy. If you’re into sweet scents like me, this is a winner! The Tahitian Gardenia was a new scent for me and I really liked it a lot! This scent is earthier in my opinion and is made with tea leaves so the scent is clean and fresh. This scent reminded me of a spring day and Easter flowers. Finally, the Tuscan Blood Orange was sweet and spicy at the same time and happened to be my husband’s favorite. There’s a note of two of strawberry lingering there, too. Perfect for a sexy night out!

So…to the part you’ve all been waiting for! Enter this giveaway from and Pacifica and you can win all of the above! Two lucky winners will receive each of the perfumes and mascara sets mentioned in this blog post. Get to steppin’ and good luck. This giveaway will make eyelash batting even more fun! 😉

We Survived a Bathroom Remodel!

If you really want to test your relationship, try tackling as many home improvement projects as possible within the first two years of owning your own home. Seriously. Paint almost every room, re-point the foundation in the basement, hand-pour a concrete pad for trash can storage, clear out the yard and revamp your gardens, rip the whole front off of your home and build a new porch, and while you’re at it: re-carpet the basement stairs. When you’re done? Remodel your second bathroom the month after your wedding. If you can handle this, I’m convinced you can handle almost anything relationship-wise. I’m not really sure why we did all of this at once. Maybe we’re a bit unhinged, but we like getting things done. Our next big project for our 1925 Colonial is a new fence, but that can wait for a little bit.

Because I’m a beauty junkie, bathrooms are important. We have a half bath on the main floor that company uses, but our full bath on the second floor with our bedrooms needed a major update. We have an original clawfoot tub with traditional fittings, so we wanted to make sure that our remodel brought it to 2015 without losing the 1925 charm ala Nicole Curtis (my inspiration and Keith’s lady crush). Here’s where I used to do my blogging research:

Our bathroom was dated. We tried making it more modern with a funky curtain and some nice fuzzy accents, but it really didn’t jive for us. That nasty green and horrific peel and stick tile from the families before us cheapened our whole design.

But…here is where I do my blogging research now!

We re-did the floor to have our dark hardwood match throughout. We kept the retro look of the 1920s with some funky wainscoting paneling, retro hardware and pedestal sink and added our own touches with our snazzy purple and a badass deer head (chrome). The mature, yet hipster, shower curtain came from my bestie, Lea. The best part? My clawfoot tub has been repainted and I can actually see myself in the bathroom mirror.

Will we tackle more projects? You bet! But first? I should probably take a selfie!
