Current Obsessions: Mom Version

It’s been a little over 5 months since the tornado known as Leo has entered into my life. And wow! I’m actually sitting at a computer in something other than pajamas (going back to work makes you feel good about wearing real clothes again), and without someone crying for me. Despite being a Mom now, I’ve got some sweet new obsessions (and some old ones that have returned), to tell you all about! And because I’m a Mom who lives under a rock now, tell me what I should be loving!

***Just want to let you know I started writing this post in March and now it’s almost May…

  • LulaRoe: Despite the claims that their leggings rip like wet TP, I’m digging these bad boys. They feel so silky soft and make me look streamlined with their yoga waistband. 
  • Coconut oil: for my baby, boobs, dog, husband, and just about everything else. 
  • Lactation cookies: homemade or Booby Boons (peep my Instagram over there—->) these are delicious and healthy!
  • Pedicures: because my feet were BUSTED since November. And yes, it took me about 3 months to cut my nails.

It’s one of my secret weapons when it comes to battling dry, winter skin. However, this serum is also perfect for summer when skin needs an extra boost of hydration. Of all the serums, this one is my favorite. I used it before bed to boost the power of the age-defying serum and also found it works great under makeup!

We all have busy lives, and washing our hair is often part of a routine we need to get done quickly before moving on to the next. But sometimes, our body has ways of telling us it needs a little extra care. After noticing my scalp felt dry and itchy, I switched to the best shampoo for itchy scalp, and learned more about what my hair and skin need to stay healthy.

Applying your own DIY hair mask is the perfect way to nourish your hair and soothe your scalp. My vegan recipe is really simple to make, and has made a huge difference in how my hair looks and feels.


The first step to having beautiful hair is making sure your scalp stays clean, healthy and hydrated. Avocado is full of beneficial properties, and is easily absorbed by your skin. It delivers amino acids, potassium, vitamins and minerals, and can also unclog hair follicles to stimulate new hair growth.   

Avocado can also help moisturize and strengthen your strands, making your hair shiny and supple. It contains everything you need to revive dry, dull or weakened hair, and helps protect it from further styling damage.


Applying banana to your hair can improve its condition dramatically. It contains vitamins, folate, minerals and natural oils which can nourish your scalp and condition your locks.

Banana’s natural moisturizing properties can help your strands feel soft and smooth, and add some extra shine to hair that feels dry and dull. It also contains antioxidants to promote healthier skin.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk adds moisture and shine to your hair, and helps replenish protein which is lost through styling and environmental damage. It contains lauric acid, Vitamins B, C and E, and is a rich source of minerals.

Massaging coconut milk into your scalp provides a cooling effect, and its natural antifungal and antibacterial properties can reduce the yeast-like fungus which causes dandruff. It also soothes irritated skin, and helps with minor scalp infections.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can help protect your hair from styling damage and chemical process. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, medium chain fatty acids and other nutrients, and can strengthen and condition your strands.

It effectively penetrates the hair shaft, and can reduce protein loss so your hair feels thick and shiny. Coconut oil can also tame flyaways and reduce frizz, and works as a natural detangler so your hair is easier to manage and style.

Olive Oil

Fighting oil with oil can be an effective way of removing a buildup of sebum, and olive oil can do just that. This helps promote new hair follicles to encourage growth, as well as improving the overall health of your scalp.

It is also very beneficial for your hair, as its rich moisturizing properties help smooth your strands so they become soft, shiny and pliable. Olive oil is a natural emollient, and infuses hair with Vitamins A, E, and antioxidants.



– 1/2 Avocado

– 1/2 Banana

– 50 ml Coconut Milk

– 2 tbsp Coconut Oil

– 1 tbsp Olive Oil



Put all the ingredients in a blender, and mix until you have a smooth paste.

Apply the mixture all over your hair, making sure your scalp is saturated. Massage it into your skin for a few minutes to nourish your scalp and roots.

Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. I like to take this time to relax in the tub, but if you want to get on with other things, you can just put a shower cap on to avoid drips.

Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo to protect your hair’s natural moisture. Rinse thoroughly, spending at least 30 seconds under the water to make sure no residue is left behind. You can condition your hair as usual.

You should already feel how much easier it is to work through any tangles. Once your hair is dry, it should feel, lush, smooth and shiny.

Welcome Leo Lucius!

I’ve been working towards this post for a long time now, because, well, I’m the mother of a newborn! Gone are the days of hours wasted online. Now, my days are spent snuggling with an adorable little human, nursing 24/7, and paying bills and texting with one hand. I’m also working on mastering the art of babywearing. So, what happened on the day that the family expanded plus one? It’s a story for sure!

Dear Leo, 

You came into the world weighing 8 lbs, 12 oz and at 21 inches long on November 21, 2016 at exactly 2 p.m. I couldn’t wait to meet you, and didn’t know you were a Leo until you arrived. Before you came, Daddy and I got your nursery ready and had our bag packed. I knew you were going to come early! I left work on a Friday and went into labor early on Monday morning. Before that, I managed to grocery shop, go see “Fantastic Beasts” with Daddy and Grandpa, clean the bedsheets, and take a hot shower before I knew it was time to call the doctor. They didn’t think I was ready, but I knew better. You were going to make a grand entrance regardless of the fact that I was a “first time mom” and you weren’t “due” until December 1. When we got to the doctor, one of my favorite midwives told me I was already at 8 c.m. She said, “You’ll be holding your baby within two hours, MAX!” 

Boy did that kick things into high gear. We made our way to the hospital and I walked in like a champ. Amanda, my other favorite midwife was there and ready. For a while, I swam in the tub and then it was time to start pushing. Holding on to a towel and using a birthing bar I thought about how badly I wanted to meet you and pulled ALL of my hypnobirthing knowledge. Your little shoulder got stuck under my pelvic bone and Amanda turned you around and out you came into the world. When they wrapped you like a little burrito and placed you on my chest I didn’t know what to say. I felt like I had known you forever. 

Now, we’re going on yet another adventure together. I’m learning to read what you want and need, and you’re learning how to live in a very different world. Two months have flown by and I can’t believe that I get to hang out with you each day and call myself your Mama! I might not be perfect at this parent thing yet, but I’ll do everything within my power to make sure you’re happy, healthy, and safe.

Holiday Safety for our Furry Friends!

We all know that holiday celebrations mean extra treats for all! However, with Myles in the house and coming with us to many celebrations, I always have to be extra careful with what I’m feeding (or what someone else is trying to feed) Myles. If you’re new to owning a pup, or even if you’re a seasoned dog parent, keeps it simple by outlining what’s good and bad for Fluffy!

Before I owned a dog, I didn’t even know that some of these foods and plant decor could be so dangerous. So, skip the Pointsettias and Holly and stick to a nice holiday candle instead (hint hint, readers, hehe). And make sure to check out to find your new best friend!
