Health & Wellness Lifestyle Momming Personal Life

How We Survived the Flu (and won!)

Every year I hear the same thing–“you don’t get a flu shot? But what it you get the flu?” And I just smile, nod, and move along with my day. We were never “flu shot people” and when I lived home, I was usually coerced into getting one. But as I got older, became a parent, and started living a more holistic lifestyle, like other random “have-to” behaviors, I phased it out.

Even while I was pregnant, I remember explaining to doctors and nurses why I was politely refusing to be injected with something foreign while literally creating life. So, when my little guy tested positive for Flu-A I was not only shocked (we eat clean, use high test Vitamin C, and elderberry on the daily along with essential oils) I was nervous for a bit. What would people say? Would someone ask me about shots? Would someone judge my parenting? Probably yes to all of the above. That’s the beauty about being a parent. No matter what you’re doing…you’re never doing it well enough.

Once my pediatrician comforted me and told me lots of rest and snuggles for the little guy (and myself), I looked into natural fever management with my oils and continued an immune blend for my little guy applied on the hour down the spine. Here’s what I used and why I used it. Hopefully, if you get the flu or any type of cold…these can provide some POWERFUL relief without turning to the drugstore or wondering what’s in that cold medicine.

Here’s my little dude enjoying “chips with cheese” while hanging out on the couch.

Easy Essential Oil Blends for Cold/Flu (kid safe!)

Immune Support Blend 10ml roller – 1 drop On Guard, 1 drop Oregano, 1 drop Lemon, 1 drop Copaiba, 1 drop Melissa, and 1 drop DDR Prime cell blend topped with FCO (fractionated coconut oil). This blend keeps our immunity up and contains the big guns to keep my little dude happy and healthy while he’s fighting his cold/flu.

Fever Support Blend 10 ml roller – 1 drop Patchouli, 1 drop Peppermint, 1 drop Frankincense topped with FCO. This blend literally cools the body without interrupting the body’s response to pathogens. Sometimes, a fever can be a good thing…and you know your child best! I applied this on the hour on the spine and feet to help Leo stay comfortable.

Respiratory Blend 10ml roller – 1 drop Eucalyptus, 1 drop Copaiba, 1 drop Siberian Fir, 1 drop Cedarwood, 1 drop Lime topped with FCO. Like the fever blend, this blend of fir and wood oils helps to open the airways. Lime loosens phlegm and gunk and smells amazing too!

With these blends (and some extra snugs and movie time and snacks) got my little dude back to normal in about four days. No fever and no chills!

What do you do when you and your fam is feeling less than fab? Tell me all the things!

  1. I got this website from my friend who informed me concerning this
web page and at the moment this time I am browsing this web site and reading very informative articles at this place.

  2. First off I would like to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do
not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I have had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are
wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips?
    Thank you!
