Book Review: The Shack

Back in January my Mom and I were book shopping and sometimes books just call to you. She picked this book, The Shack by William P. Young, based totally on the cover. As a fellow book junkie I had to agree that some of the best books I’ve bought and read were based solely on the fact that they have a really cool cover. Nothing wrong with that, right?

So, a few weeks ago my Mom finally finished reading it as did Keith’s Mom and each of them told me I had to read this book. Granted I am religious and spiritual, but you do NOT have to be either of those to truly appreciate the message in this book. I literally finished it in three days because I could not put the book down. I was actually upset when it was all over because I wanted to know more about the characters and what will happen to them in the future.

The book starts out with the main character’s daughter being abducted on a camping trip. She is murdered in a run down shack in the middle of the woods with no civilization around for miles. Some time after, the main character finds a note to go back to the shack. That’s really about all I can tell you without giving anything good away to you. The author portrays the characters so beautifully and the descriptiveness of the settings and world around the main character are so believable. I had such a vivid picture in my head of every event, and any writer knows that to achieve that can be so challenging.

This all being said, if you’ve read the book I would love to know what you thought. Would you recommend it to someone else? Would you read it again? (I sure would!). And if you haven’t read it, what have you heard about it? Apparently this book is making a huge impact on those who read it, and I’d love to know what you guys think!

And make sure to check out theshackbook.com if you’re curious to learn more. I especially liked the Author’s page. I kind of want to meet him!

  3. LMFAO, I can’t believe I’m the first to comment on the whole “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” thing. I guess that concept goes totally out the window here.

I’m usually not a huge book reader because my attention span is pretty much non-existent so it takes REALLY really interesting subjects to even make me want to read in the first place. I think I might at least check this out at the library though. It sounds good.
