Today I was in a baking mood so I decided to bake up some home made Freiselles (pronounced Friz-ales, hehe). They’re a simple pepper bread which are a traditional Italian food. You can dunk them in your coffee, serve them with meals, and even toast them up after baking and use them as home made croûtons for a nice peppery flavor.
This recipe has been in our family for a long time. Try it out and see how you like it.
Let’s face it, running on the treadmill 3-4 times a week for 45 minutes gets boring. We all know this. While walking or running outside or on a track can give you a change of scenery, working out needs to be fun or else why do it? Summer is a great way to work out, and if it’s too hot there are video games that allow you to burn calories in a fun way with friends or family. And let’s not forget swimming and working out in the water. Here’s some fun ways I break the habit of the treadmill and what I think of the workout games.
There are some great ways to workout if you have a pool at your home, at your apartment, or in your town. Making a whirlpool (by yourself is a great workout!!) is a wonderful leg and arm workout. Run around the outside of the pool 10-15 times and try and swim the opposite way. I try and to 3-4 run arounds against the current. This will work your quads, and lower abs. You really feel the burn! It might sound easy to do, but anyone who has tried running in the water knows there’s a stronger resistance to work against. Doing this 2-3 times a week I’ve noticed a difference in my legs and lower abs! And plus, the water keeps you cool and allows you to work a little harder.
To the left you can see a photo of the Wii Fit balance board, your main companion when playing Wii Fit for Nintendo. This board guides you through a body test, BMI, Fit Age, and goal process before you begin working out. Yoga, cardio, strength, and balance are the games you can play complete with calorie and fat burning, and a way to weigh yourself. As you lose weight, your character gets smaller along with you. The Hula Hoop game is super for abs and hips (feels like doing 100 crunches in 4 different ways when you’re done), and the Yoga workouts are comparable to going to a yoga class. This is certainly a great way for friends to workout together or family members to get fit together in a fun way.
Do you think it’s a good idea to work out using a video game?
Can it be a good thing to add to a normal workout routine?
I think in our tech age, it’s a great way to help kids have fun working out as well as adults who may not be able to make it to a gym every day, or may not have the endurance to run on a treadmill. If you’re in doubt? My doctor bought one for her kids!
Getting your eyebrows shaped and waxed every 3-4 weeks can be expensive as time goes on, so a few years ago I decided to take hair removal into my own hands and begin waxing my eyebrows at home. There have been some blunders along the way, and after doing this for a while I decided to compile some tips for the novice at home waxer. If you decide to try it, take these into consideration. Have I removed way too much before? OH YES! And have I looked permanently surprised for a few days? You bet! Here’s how to prevent accidents from happening and how to fix mistakes if they do happen.
I absolutely love this formula by Sally Hansen which runs about 5-8 dollars at any drug store. The formula has natural botanicals and comes with a Sesame Azulene finishing oil which helps to soothe skin and remove redness although I prefer to use Baby Oil to remove excess wax, and it also helps to soothe skin without the menthol. Either one works fine.
+ Try a no strip formula. The no strip formula like this one allows you to apply as much or as little wax, which is great for beginners. Apply less than you think you’ll need to begin with.
+ Most come with eyebrow guides. I DON’T use these. If you’ve never waxed before these are great, but since my brows are already shaped I go with what I have. Try these if your brows have never been waxed or shaped and they make it easier to see what should be waxed away.
+ If you take a little too much off, use a similar colored eyebrow pencil to fill in spots.
+ Have a tweezer handy. You can use the tweezer to remove hairs that the wax might have missed. I love the Mini Tweezer that comes in the wax pack.
+ Go slow! This isn’t a race. Go nice and slow and make sure to have a bright light in order to remove the exact amount of hair you want.
+ Baby Oil in my opinion surpassed the oil that comes in the set. It removes excess wax and has no menthol in it. I don’t mind the oil in the pack but I now use baby oil to remove redness, soothe, and remove wax easily.
If you’re looking into waxing at home, try these tips and this product. Sally Hansen makes a great product and you can save a lot of money by doing this beauty regime at home. Good luck, and take it nice and slow and your brows will look great.
Sorry for the lack of posts and updates. I’ve been insanely busy as of late and life has been moving quickly. With everything being so expensive; gas, food, and the like, I managed to find some beauty routines that you can do at home, and with things that are most likely in your kitchen! Sounds like fun right? We’ve all heard of the Egg Mask, but I think these are much better. I’m looking into trying the following and figured I’d share them with you.
Soda Hair Soak – by Gregg Giamillo of J. Sisters Salon & Spa
3 tbsp baking powder
1 cup water
This recipe is a pre-shampoo rinse which helps to relieve product buildup in the hair. I know that with my thick curly hair I have to use a lot of product to keep frizz at bay, especially in the warm and humid weather we’ve been having. Simply mix together and when the mixture fizzes run through your hair until the fizzing stops. Shampoo as usual and do not rinse out the mixture before shampooing.
Very Berry Scrub – by Kimara Ahnert (celeb makeup artist)
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1/2 cup plain unsweetened yogurt
Mash the berries and combine with yogurt. Make sure to keep ingredients equal. The yogurt balances the pH in levels in your skin which the berries contain alpha hydroxy acid which helps to remove dead skin cells.
I love strawberries, especially in the summer and this is just another reason to love them. When used on your skin they bring out a radiant complexion.
A while ago my Aunt scored some free samples of Elta MD Sunscreen, and I just got around to trying it out. I have two tubes of product and used it today when I did my running in the pool and when I laid out afterwards.
Elta’s products range from skincare to suncare, and I was pleased with this product. There is no smell, oil, paraben, or chemicals. This sunscreen has natural ingredients that can be used on children or people with sensitive skin. I liked that it had a little bit of a tint to it as well. I tanned through the sunscreen as well. All too often people think that you can’t tan through sunscreen but you can. It simply blocks UVA and UVB which are the most harmful rays of the sun causing premature aging and skin cancer. You can still get a tan by wearing sunscreen, you’re just not absorbing the most damaging rays.
My only gripe? One of the main ingredients is Zinc Oxide, so if you use a little too much you can have a few white patches. To remove it simply soak a wet cloth and rub away and it’s gone in seconds. I probably used a bit too much, but that was the only problem I saw. If you want to learn some more check out Elta MD’s website.
