Morgan’s Boutique: 3 Step Skincare for Oily Skin

I have always loved my skin, and for the most part it’s in pretty good shape. I put my skin through a lot between trying new products and my long ex-love affair with tanning beds. Now that I’m older, I try to be are good to my skin as I can and it truly shows. My one gripe? OIL! I’m aware that most of my oil problem is hereditary. I’m Italian and Greek, and despite jokes from my friends about having Olive Oil in my blood I really do have to work hard to make sure that my face doesn’t double as a mirror during the day–while also not drying it out since many products for oily skin double as acne fighters.

Here is where Morgan’s Boutique blew it out of the park. While each of the above three products are for both Oily AND Acne Prone skin, the natural ingredients and soothing extracts make for a gentle, yet effective means of keeping your skin matte and clear.

The Cucumber Cleanser was my favorite product to try out because I was once DEVOTED to MAC’s Green Gel Cleanser which is made from cucumber extract. I used Morgan’s Cucumber cleanser twice a day, morning and night, and my skin felt smooth and clean after–not that tight feeling you usually find while using acne/oily skincare products. Cucumber extract is great for sensitive skin too because it helps to de-puff and soothe dry, tired skin. I continued on my skincare journey with a follow-up of Herbal Astringent which smelled fresh and clean. This astringent is made especially for oily skin, and I applied it on my problem areas only (forehead, nose, chin) before bed. I would recommend using it before bedtime so the herbs and sulfur have enough time to really soak in to your pores without makeup or other oils that might be present on the skin.

Last, but definitely not least, is the Oil Free Hydration Lotion. The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the years is that you MUST moisturize even if you have oily skin. You just have to find the right formula. Obviously, look for “oil-free” but also make sure that the consistency is lighter. I used this lotion both during the day as a base for my makeup and before I went to sleep. It has a light, milky consistency and literally slides on to your face. For me, it felt like my skin was drinking it in. I loved the clean scent, as many products can be a bit too strong for me. Overall, it’s a great moisturizer which left me feeling refreshed! This moisturizer also contains Collagen and Elastin to keep skin looking young and supple!

Overall, you’re getting an amazing skincare routine for a reasonable price (compared to department stores which can cost up to $50.00 or more!) Coupled with the 30% off coupon for the month of October (enter code: CSX110927190126), you really get a great deal. This skincare routine is gentle, effective, and doesn’t break the bank. Three reasons to try it out (and love it!)

Morgan’s Boutique: Iced Mint Mask Product Review

One of my favorite beauty products is the mask! I’ve always loved them, but was never able to find one that alleviated my oily skin AND left my face feeling fresh, soft, and generally amazing.

Elizabeth at Morgan’s Boutique gave me the chance to review some great, affordable, beauty and skincare products. This is the first of a three part beauty bonanza, so make sure to stay tuned. First up: their Iced Mint Mask. It’s developed especially for oily and acne prone skin. It contains natural peppermint oil and menthol which soothe and awaken the skin at the same time. As soon as I applied it to my face, my skin felt like it was zapped with energy. The formula is creamy and gentle and glides on smoothly–when it’s time to rinse the mask off, I used a warm wash cloth after about 7 minutes (or when you can feel to beginning to dry). It rinses easily and gently. No red blotches here and my skin felt smooth and looked matte and fresh.

The Iced Mint Mask is offered at a wallet friendly price of $7.99 for 2oz. You only need a scoop or two (about 3 fingers full) to cover your whole face, so you get a good bang for your buck, which I love. Their philosophy is that in this economy it is possible to look good and pamper yourself even if you are on a budget. I love their down to earth persona regarding beauty and skincare.

I find it important to mention here that my boyfriend, who has a downright dirty job (he installs burial vaults for cemeteries), also enjoyed a sampling of this mask. Working outside in the humidity and general dirt and grime, he ends up coming home with breakouts from time to time. While he politely declined a photo op on my blog, he did mention his face felt amazing, clean, and smooth after a long day of work. Nothing wrong with a guy who can admit that women know what they are doing when it comes to cosmetics.

Here I am enjoying my Iced Mint Mask–super minty and tingly!

Product Review: Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash

Before I dive into this amazing product, some routine things for which I will use bullet points:

  • I have updated (what?!?!) my health/fitness section with more weight loss pictures, and new weigh-in’s. I’m challenging myself to reach 130 pounds. I have 6 to go, and Weight Watchers is the only way to do it. Thus, updating needed to be done. Check it.
  • I have been accepted into the GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) program at my school. This is amazing for two reasons. 1) My ultimate goal is to teach Composition and Literature at the college level. 2) I will not have to sub next year.
  • I should be completing my job’s blog on “Hot New Signage Materials,” but I wanted to let you know about the magic that is bliss.
  • My professor has made me a bit obsessed with bullet points. It just makes everything look more important, don’t you think?
  • About three weeks ago I was in the shower, and realized my MAC Green Gel Cleanser was almost empty. I had no time to travel to the mall to buy more, and ordering it online and rush deliver it would have probably cost more than my graduate school, so I decided to take a risk, walk into Ulta, and look for a new cleanser. I met a man named Jose, who used to work for MAC and explained the situation to him. I needed something in a similar price range, consistency, and something that will keep my oily skin at bay. He introduced me to Bliss products, specifically the Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I immediately loved the name because it’s chock full of alliteration (shut up, I’m a nerd!), but a fun name and a good smell means nothing if my face was going to be a minefield within a week. He did a demo of the wash, toner, and moisturizer on me, I decided to purchase the cleanser, and warned him that if I had middle school skin in 5 days I was coming back to hunt him down. Three weeks later, I’m addicted and possibly in love.

The FFF has cleansers and exfoliators in one, which I love, since efficiency is key for me. It contains natural botanicals (rose hip extract, milk thistle, passion flower and chamomile), and feels amazing on your skin. The scent is light and flowery, perfect for spring in my opinion, and the ingredient list isn’t a mile long. I use about two pumps in the shower, and rub it on both my face and neck two times a day. My skin is literally glowing, feels smooth and soft, and my pores are minimized. Jose had it right, after using MAC’s Green Gel Cleanser for almost 5 years, I’ve found something comparable, and something that does right by my skin. I also love the chamomile, which helps to calm down my skin which can be oily and dry at the same time (yes, that is possible). While the product comes at a price of $22.00 for a 15oz bottle, a little truly goes a long way. I’m one to be thrifty when I can, but when it comes to this product you truly get what you are paying for.

What are some of your favorite cleansers and skincare products you have tried? Any that you refuse to use again? Any that you refuse to ever stop using? Let me know! My Mom still stands by Noxema and her St. Ive’s Apricot face wash, but I’m determined to get her to try this sometime soon!

LUSH Cosmetics: Supernova Bath Bomb & Angels On Bare Skin

If you’ve read my Beauty Reviews before, you know I love Lush’s Fresh Handmade Cosmetics. Their prices are reasonable, their shipping isn’t painful, and ordering online is easy. Yesterday Keith and I went to Mohegan Sun, a casino in my state, and I got a chance to browse and visit the LUSH store in the casino. It’s truly great to be able to look, smell, and experience everything the store has to offer, instead of only judging products by reviews and photos alone. Keith surprised me with buying me one of my favorite LUSH products, and by purchasing a Bath Bomb for me to try.

Bath Bombs are something I’ve never tried before because I never really get the time to take a bath and truly enjoy it. I end up getting ready to take a bubble bath, relax for a total of ten minutes, if that, and then I get annoyed and end up taking a shower anyway. Sort of defeats the purpose doesn’t it? Well, this Bath Bomb actually got me to stay in the tub for almost a whole half hour. WOW! I tried the The Supernova Bath Bomb which is about the size of a large baseball. It’s bright pink, which I automatically loved, and smells like Orange and Bergamot (found in Earl Grey Tea!). Immediately upon dropping it into the tub it began to fizz, and paper confetti came out from the Bath Bomb. Best of all? The water turned a lovely shade of pink! After using the product, my skin felt silky smooth and I smelled delicious. I’m looking forward to trying more of their Bath Bombs in the future.

You all know I’m a MAC girl, and I love my Green Gel Cleanser with a passion, but a 1-2 times weekly exfoliation with Angels on Bare Skin is great! It has crushed, ground almonds, and a scent of Rosemary and Lavender. LUSH boasts that the recipe is derived from a Medieval cleaning potion, which is something other companies can’t often lay claim to. I purchased 1/4 of a pound, which will last you at least 1-2 months as you only need a pea sized amount. A little bit goes a long way, and with people trying to save money you can purchase this cleanser for just $10.00, and have it last for so long! It’s a great investment for your facial arsenal.

The best part about LUSH is that many of their products, Angels on Bare Skin & Supernova Bath Bomb are Vegan. All of their products are not tested on animals, and their containers and bags are recyclable in many areas.

    Mascara Tips & My favorites

I absolutely love Mascara. It’s a beauty product I wear almost everyday, even more than eyeliner. Mascara can open your eyes up, make them look bigger, and of course give you dramatic, lush lashes. There are mascaras for thickening, separating, and adding volume to your lashes. Total Beauty gives perfect lash tips, tricks and more. Here, I share some of my favorites, and the mascaras that I couldn’t bear to lose!

    – Use a zigzag motion to separate lashes if you’re using a traditional wand brush.

    – Apply to the inner, outer, and middle sections of your lashes. Those tiny inner lashes sometimes are forgotten.

    – Wipe your wand gently with a tissue prior to applying. This helps get rid of clumpiness.

    – CLEAR MASCARA! Great for a natural look, and also doubles as a brow gel to tame fly-a-ways.

    – Replace your mascara every three months, and if you have just gotten over an illness or eye ailment throw it away ASAP! Wands can be breeding grounds.

I have three mascaras which I am currently in love with. My favorite being MAC Pro Longlash. I love the deep, rich black! The packaging is sleek and easy to stow away in a purse. This mascara is non-clumpy and makes lashes so long and lush. The longevity of the product is amazing. All day length, no clumps, and no smearing or smudging.

MAC’s Pro Lash Colour is another love of mine. White mascara can be super daring, or subtle. I love white mascara as a primer before adding color to the tips of my lashes for a bolder look. I also wear it alone on the outer edges to brighten up my eyes.

And last but NOT least, Covergirl Lash Blast is amazing! I have it in dark brown which gives a subtle look. Black has always been more dramatic for me. The brush is thick and has many tiny applicators which make sure that every lash is lengthened. Mascara makes any makeup look in my opinion. It’s a great way to finish out a look for work, or for going out at night, and it’s more versatile than people think!
